I had the privilege of visiting Ruthie Burris’s private home and garden while in Austin. From the steep driveway lined with wildflowers and agave to the yuccas, this garden is extraordinary. I ended up with big time agave envy. Using a surprising mix of wildflowers with roses, hedges, shrubs and trees created joy and love around every corner.

Recently I ordered 3 Yucca rostratas and got 2 Southern Live Oaks. Then I got the 3 yuccas. These great trees will not make it in my Zone. If you’d like them and we can figure out how to get them to you, lmk. The nursery is no help. Costs too much to send back. Any other ideas?

There are several pots at SHG that are homages to the bungalows being torn down by aggressive developers. When I see the construction fence go up, indicating a cute 1920s bungalow is being scraped, I sneak in and take one plant for a pot. People have lots of Sempervivum and Sedum. I usually have no idea of the species name. Any ideas of which species this might be? It’s gorgeous.
